Who We Are

Sustainable Energy Ireland, formerly the Irish Energy Centre, is Ireland’s national energy authority. The Authority promotes and assists environmentally and economically sustainable production, supply and use of energy, in support of Government policy, across all sectors of the economy.

Its remit relates mainly to improving energy efficiency, advancing the development and competitive deployment of renewable sources of energy and combined heat and power, and reducing the environmental impact of energy production and use, particularly in respect of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Authority is charged with implementing significant aspects of the Green Paper on Sustainable Energy and the National Climate Change Strategy as provided for in the National Development Plan.

Sustainable Energy Ireland is organised into five divisions and operates from offices in Dublin, Cork and Sligo. The Authority’s Renewable Energy Information Office is located in Bandon, Co. Cork.
