National Boiler Awards 1998

(Sponsored by Royal and Sun Alliance)

Boilers are a feature of everyday industrial, commercial and residential life in Ireland. They convert primary fuels into heat for our homes, offices, shops, schools, hospitals, banks etc. In an average year the above sectors consume 1,815 million litres of fuel oil and 10.4 billion kWh’s of gas.

The potential for fuel cost savings in boiler plant is large. Increased awareness and improved housekeeping practices are the principal means by which the Irish Energy Centre expects the savings to be realised. The average boiler operates at between 2% and 5% below optimum efficiency thereby wasting up to £3,200 per year. The Irish Energy Centre has targeted national savings of £5 million per annum through improved boiler practice.

This competition is intended to draw attention to and reward best practice in the use and management of boilers and the interaction with the service companies who look after boilers and ancillary plants. This competition will promote good boiler practice and reward excellence. The Irish Energy Centre wants to encourage the maintenance of existing high standards and to provide an incentive to boiler users to strive for higher performance.

Companies are encouraged to take the opportunity to recognise and reward effort through nominating their boilerhouse, boilerperson and / or service company. The competition will be judged by a panel of experts who will, through the organisers, provide feedback to the participants.
