I work from home — should I apply for a business grant or a home energy grant?

In most cases, you should apply for a home energy grant, not a business grant.
That’s because SEAI’s Business Energy Grants are intended for commercial premises, not residential properties — even if business is conducted there. If you work from home (e.g. remote employee, freelancer, or sole trader), and the energy upgrades benefit your entire home or attached home office, then you qualify under the Home Energy Grant scheme.
Key points:
Apply under the Home Energy Grant scheme if your workspace is part of your house.
Business grants typically don’t apply to residential addresses.
You may still be able to claim business expenses separately through Revenue, such as electricity or heating related to your office use — but this is a tax matter, not related to SEAI grants.
